Marines are glorified Janitors

I am no longer in the service. After I went to boot camp I thought all your work after boot camp would be in your specific field. Like if you are a tank driver all your work would be tank related work then when you are done for the day you relax.

What they don’t tell you before you join is about all the extra time that is spent picking up garbage, racking leaves, moping floors etc. I mean sometimes the whole day would be spent doing janitorial work.

Well you know what?? It’s called seniority. It exists everyone including the Marine Corps. When you first get in, you’re not going to be able to do the things you were trained to do right off the bat. It’s basically a right you have to earn. While your CO’s are doing what you want to do, you have to do all the work that no one wants to do. But I agree with Maverick65…you were probably running your mouth or did some stupid stunt to get you to do those things. I can tell that you were one of the people who thought the Military was all fun and that you could blow things up and run over them with your tank. Being in the Military is hard work in everything you do. My father was in the Marine Corps for 25 years and even me, a teenager in high school, knows that the Military is not what most people think it is.

Marines are not janitors for that tells me that you had to have had a piss poor job-M.O.S. or you got into a lot of trouble due to they give them to screw ups or people who who get into trouble for not every Marine has done what you have decribed of doing. For I’ve been in the Marine Corps for 13 years now 10 active duty & 3 as a Reservist an I’ve only had to do K.P. a couple times due to letting My mouth getting me into trouble when I was a Corpral but any way all the military branches have that type of stuff to do if U

I am glad to hear I went with the right branch. I’ve got E4 and I’m pushing 4 Sgt. soon…at 18 years old. So much for “The Few The Proud” ill go with a HOOHA any day. Specialist Himschoot Gregory A. Like I said I am no longer in the service and was just wondering if the same day in day out cleaning of toilets and picking cigarette butts go in the other branches.

I got out of the military over a decade ago. At least I got to see the whole world in the four years I was in.

I was most of the time on a Navy ship as part of an amphibian assault unit. I’ve visited so many places but my favorites were Rio, Mount Fuji japan, Tokyo, Aruba, Panama Canal, Alaska, Buenos Aires an Chile.

Maybe you should have thoroughly checked it out ahead of time - you would have discovered in every military job description the last sentence reads “and other duties ‘as needed’ - Marines are tough, the Best make it, wonder what scares you about garbage, mop, leaves - I’ve never heard of a US Marine whining.

Answer #6

You shouldn’t expect to pushed to a higher rank when joining,it takes hard work. Every Marine in the service right now that have a rank had to do tons of work to get where they are,not by asking. The Captain of your platoon has to see that your doing what you have to do. All I can say is,keep doing you hardest at the position your in and act as professional as you can to get his/her attention, then maybe in the future they will see you have made progress with your work, they will boost you to a higher rank,it just takes time, don’t rush anything.

Clown

Note:I know this cause I’m a former Cadet and I had to do a whole stack of work to get promoted to a higher rank.
