Does it make sense to issue a legal license to an illegal person?

We do that with H1B visas (eg, you have a special skill? here’s a free pass to work in the US) and the government even does that without special skills, just people who work for a multinational corp, who then get a free pass to come over to work in the corp HQ here in the US.

There are dozens of ways around the law…but, most of the loopholes favor the rich. So, why not treat illegal immigrants the same? BTW, years ago, I worked with illegal immigrants in a job department. Most of the time, the jobs they acquired were ones that would have gone empty, had they not taken those jobs.

Separate issue, though.

the reason, amblessed, is simple. they are already here, right? millions of them. and we can’t keep track of them. so by giving them licenses, they will have identification with their address and birthdate and take driving courses so that millions of people already in our country will be safer drivers and a lot of them will buy insurance so if they get into a wreck and injure somebody, then the injured person can get their medical bills paid for and sue for pain and suffering instead of just being screwed. cause a lot of illegals are driving anyways. im not saying whether I agree with it or not and I dont’ know everything about it but that is one of the reasons to give illegals licenses.

If an illegal immigrant paid an out a huge (say, 10x the regular) fee, then sure it makes sense, because I’ve never once heard our government complain about how much they rake in from taxes ;)

So 5 times the fee - it doesn’t make sense, but 10 it does - it’s the dollar figure that nullifies the established law…I respect it but I don’t follow that reasoning - just seems to me, why make a law if you’re going to allow a certain dollar figure to nullify it - seems that would lead to anarchy…I’ll think about it

MONEY it has always has been for that reason and will always stay for that reason. Just think how much taxes the illegal immigrant does not get back when taxes are filed.

Hey Viper, that is a good point but don’t forget that a lot of illegal aliens work “under the table” jobs. I have worked under the table too doing house painting and I know a lot of drywall and painting companies will hire people under the table so they dont take taxes out of their checks and basically, that’s ripping off the government. And as much as I dislike the government because they waste our money, some of that money goes to programs to help people so, getting paid under the table not only rips off the government, but it rips off the people of this country also. So, I guess it depends on if there are more illegals working over the table and just not filing taxes, or are there more illegals working under the table and ripping everybody off. I should point out that it’s not just illegals working under the table but like I said I have done it, too. What’s even worse that some legal citizens are doing but I have never personally done, is working a job under the table like a construction job where its easy to fudge the paperwork on how many employees you have, so your not getting taxes taken out, and also filing for unemployment. so they get 2 checks, one from their illegal under the table job, and another from the government for being unemployed. They do this for a certain amount of time and then go back on the books so they collect a tax return also. Just something to think about. Cause thats a lot of money being paid for unemployment and im sure thousands of people are doing this in our country but im sure even if the government wasn’t paying these people with unemployment checks they would just waste it anyways.
