How long does it take for birth control to regulate you?

So I have been on birth control going on 4 weeks now. It is my first time ever on birth control. I got on it because of my periods were iregular and too much cramping and everything. The doctor said I will experience spotting. Well ever since I been on it, its been like spotting but not like he said. One day it seemed like it was going to stop but it didnt. Somedays its more than spotting, well its spotting but the blood is a lot more than a normal spotting. So I am on the white week of pills now. This morning I didnt have a tampon in and I thought I would be ok. Well I lay out to go tan and then I got up 5 mins later, walk in the house to go to the bathroom. Check my underwear and theres a lot of blood, and I am cramping really bad. There was also this thing that looked like a huge blood clot which worried me. How long months or what ever, does it take for birth control to work the right way and to really regulate your period without all this spotting and everything. Its so annoying atleast my cramping isnt as bad as it use to be!

Answer #1

The irregular cycle you describe is normal. Give the pills 3 or 4 cycles and if you haven’t regulated by then… then talk to your doctor about trying a different pill that has a different combination and levels of hormones.

Answer #2

You can check up with some homeopathic doctor of a good name, he may help you by giving you medicine of very low cost as well as very effective and without any sorts of problems as you explained in your story.

Okay, first of all you may never be regulated. Second of all, it could be the type of birh control you are taking. Every type has a different level of hormones, some don’t have a week of placebos, etc. I’d give it three months- if you are still experiencing heavy bleeding, clotting, and cramps I’d let the doctor know you aren’t any better and that you’d like to try a different type of birth control. Good luck!

The heavy spotting is normal unless this lasts for near a month - then I would be getting concerned. When I first took birth control pills I had heavy spotting for 12 days, very annoying! If it doesn’t settle down - go to the GP.

All of the hormones have an effect, so expect some minor side effects for the first month or even months. But, if these become a problem - again, go to the GP.

It can take anything from straight off to over a year to regulate your periods. Mine took pretty much right off. I took mine on the first day of my period and then after than I know which day its coming and ending.
