Is this lawsuit justified ?

In the news today: “If you’re on a construction site, and there is a large steel I-beam heading for your head, you’d probably want your co-workers to warn you about it…in English! But yet again, this type of policy is causing an uproar, this time in Connecticut, where a sheet metal plant is being sued by five Spanish-speaking workers because the company ‘ordered its employees to speak only English on the job because of safety concerns” - Is this lawsuit justified ?

Answer #1

I think it’s stupid. if they wona live in america they should learn english. I don’t want to have to learn spanich just cause they don’t want to learn english. if I move to mexico or some other country I will try and learn that lanuage and if I don’t it’s my problem not someone elses.

Answer #2

Answer #3

Answer #4

I don’t believe it is justified at all. My husband is an electrician and works on many dangerous jobsites. He works with Hispanics often and once tried to warn them that they were standing on a pipeline that was about to blow. They didn’t know any English and didn’t know why he was shouting and waving. Fortunately, he remembered the Spanish word for “danger” and was able to get them to back up just in the nick of time.

Not learning the English language puts everyone at risk. The company can’t teach all its employees every language of every employee - that would be an undue hardship! I don’t see the lawsuit going anywhere and it’s ridiculous that it’s even being brought up. They should spend their time and money learning English instead - and I say that as a person who has truly enjoyed seeing the Hispanic community in her town grow.
