Is there a way...

to get counseling without your parents knowing in the USA? I am going through a rough time on various things, and I am not sure what to do… I would prefer it to be face to face but I know that would not be very likely to happen. My sister has a therapist, and my parents know…but I am not as courageous as her.

Answer #1

Bulimia, self harm, and drugs are the main things, and those are all too serious to talk to anyone at school about.

Answer #2

you could ask your sister to take you to a counsler.

Answer #3

I am thirteen so I don’t have insurance, or transportation. I have no idea…

Answer #4

Your school may have a counsellor you can see there. Ask your teacher about it, im sure they will be willing to help.

Answer #5

I don’t like the school counselor. She is really bad at her job. I know that sounds kind of mean, and picky, but she does not help…at all. All she tells me is “Stop!” and stuff like that…

Answer #6

Basically school is out of the question, the things I need to discuss are far too serious.

Answer #7

You can tell school councillors anything apart from anything ‘that threatens your life, health etc’xx

Answer #8

do you have any kind of insurance? you can probably do it if you can get ahold of your insurance card. but you also have to deal with co-pays, getting there and back, and finding a therapist that accepts your insurance. unless of course you go to the same one as your sister. the therapist can not repeat ANYTHING you say by law unless you are going to seriously hurt yourself or sombody else.

you also may be able to go to counseling at school. my school had a lady they called the SAC lady. most people thought she was only there for drug problems but she helped anyone with anything. most schools now have some kind of person that you can go and talk to without them repeating anything. if you dont feel comfortable talking to them they may be able to point you in the direction of sombody that can help you. good luck I hope everything works out.

Answer #9

Yeh I know babe. I suffer with bulimia, although I’m trying to sort that out. And anorexia. So I know how hard it is. Xx

Answer #10

Things that are that serious should really be brought up in a conversation with your family.

They are far to serious to keep them to yourselves. You need help and guidance on a much more larger scale that a councillor could give you once a week.

Seek help as soon as possible. It’s the only way.

Answer #11

My family IS the problem…so talking to them would be as useful as talking to a pile of bricks.

Answer #12

School councillor sounds like your best bet hun. I forgot you have to pay for treatment and stuff. I don’t have to in the uk. Try bed talk to a school councillor if you can. Usually they tell you what they can’t and can’t keep confidential. Xx

Answer #13

To answer your question… No. I’m sorry, I think it’s stupid but the law favors parents… I’m pretty sure that all counselors need consent from parents through out the states… In Fl you can see a client if it is for drug abuse, or an STD or an emergency (like one or two sessions). Not sure what the specific laws are in your area. You really should talk to your sister. She can help you go to your parents…

Answer #14

They still will not see you without parental consent (even if your sister takes you…)
