Is there a humane way to euthanize our 15-year-old dog at home?

Our little Teddy is 15 years old and is going downhill fast. If he makes it up the stairs to go outside, he falls over with a seizure. He is having seisures all the time. One of them lasted about four or five minutes and he couldn’t move for 1 1/2 hours. He walks so stiffly, has lumps and we feel he probably has cancer. He is almost completely deaf and has no periferal vision and has catarachs. He has been such a good little dog, but he moans with every breath and is becoming incontinent. I just can’t see paying a vet to put him down if we can give him some Trazadone, which we have, that could put him to sleep peacefully without the trauma and expense of taking him to the vet.

well im sorry to your pet poor old boy you should realy get a vet out right away surely you wouldt want to live like this get one out now hes in pain sorry I realy am I had mine put down last year he was 14 god bless

Answer #2

Please do not attempt this at home. Call your vet, though from your question and description of your dog you probably do not have a vet. If you attempt this at home, you could easily cause more pain to your pet. Do the humane thing and take him to a vet. Please.

Answer #3

I would call your vet and see if they can do it at your house, the drug we use is a controlled substance, our doctors will make appt. to come to your house to make it easier on the animal and the family. Please Please don’t try to do anything at home.

If he’s a very small dog, then take him to the VET. Even there, it is a quiet and peaceful passing, with you holding him. You won’t even be able to tell that he’s gone…Why chance making his final moments even worse than his life is now? Why put yourself thru the trauma???

I know it is hard but if you do it yourself, something could go wrong.

I had to put my 15 year old dog down yesterday. It was very hard!!

I cried for hours at a time. I work at the vet clinic here and so I know that it is not that easy to put him down. you have to inject the medicine into his vein.

If you were to miss the vein he would end up suffering even more.

I know its very hard. I had my dog since I was 1.

My advice to you is just take him in. it’s better than screwing up if you did it yourself.
