Is my belly button ring infected?

I got my belly pierced a couple of months ago and I been using a surgical steel belly ring but I noticed that it started to get purple around and inside my belly button also there were little bumps all around. and also its red all around the purple part as well. and just today my skin started to peel. there is no puss or anything coming out. this has been going on for about two and a half weeks so I thought it may have been an allergic reaction so I changed my belly ring to a 14k gold one yesterday since my body usually can take gold. I’ve been cleaning it with antibacterial soap, and bactine. I also been putting neopsorin on it. I just dont know what else to do. can anybody please give me some advice on what I need to do??!!

I don’t know but it doesn’t sound good

Answer #4

I would temporarly remove ring, then drain as much puss as possible by lightly spreading not squeezing, then apply Hydrogen Peroxide(will cause some burning and a lot of bubbling) repeat several times till burning subsides, then apply a seasalt solution.Do this as many times a day as possible. Finally clean ring with rubbing alcohol or Hydrgen Peroxide then rinse with warm water and replace back in your belly button do this each time you remove and replace the ring.Remember to wash your hands and be careful not to contaminate your main supply of Peroxide and or alcohol by allowing it to come in contact with used peroxide or alcohol. If it does not get better in 3 or 4 days maximum go to a Doctor.

Answer #7

I got mine on 8/7 and today is 8/12 so it’s been 5 days. I’ve noticed it’s red and sore. Which I would expect but should I be alarmed that it’s infected. a lot people so no give it another week. I’ve been doing a lot of cruches and exercising period and some say this may have caused the iritation.

Answer #8

Just because it has “pus” doesn’t mean it’s infected if the pus is white of a slight yellow colour then that is lymph which is perfectly normal in a healing piercing, but if the pus is green ,brown and smells and the piercing if painful, throbbing and hot to touchten this is an infection and you need to go see your dr and get antibiotics. If it is infected thn DO NOT take the jewellery out as this will trap the infection inside and can be dangerous.
