I think my monroe is infected!

This is third facial peircing I’ve had… I had my nose pierced- no problem. I got my labret done and then a hardness formed around it… Even though I washed it and followed all the directions given…6 months later I took it out because it was tooo uncomfortable. so I got my monroe done a week ago now…now instead of all around it it’s just the side closer to my lip that is hard. it’s a bit painful. I mouthwash, use dial and use salt water. I now have started a thin coat of neosporin like once a day. still… The lump won’t go. what can I do? this seems to happen everytime now!

Yeah… so thanks for all the advice… I’ve been soaking it in warm salt water and it seems to be REALLY helping… so hopefully it is going to start going down now… the infection(puss…ew) is comming out… that is a good sign…doesn’t really hurt much now either!

I just got my monroe done about 4 days ago and it’s really starting to make me nervous. This is my first piercing (other than my ears) and I feel like it’s either infected or I’m just not taking care of it right. My piercer told me not to mess with it to much unless I’m cleaning it and to use sea salt/warm water and mouthwash (never specified what type though) It doesn’t look red unless I twist it, but it is hard and white-ish. No puss is coming out, but there is a crust around the ball. My boyfriend says I’m worrying about it to much and that it’s healing, but I’m not sure. What do I need to do? Am I cleaning it properly? Please help.

I got the same as you its a little bit red and hard…the puss I’ve bin told is just your body cleanin it…im guna bath it in salt water too if it helps :) mine dont hurt either

Answer #5

It doesn’t sound like an infection - it sounds like your body is rejecting the piercing.

Go to the doctor - because this can leave a serious scar if you don’t take care of it. If it is an infection - he will give you antibiotics to clear it up. It sounds like it’s rejecting though - and in that case you will have to take the piercing out. Some people’s bodies just don’t do well with piercings, it could also have to do with the type of metal the jewelry is made out of.

According to: http://body-piercing.suite101.com:

You can try home treating by increasing the number of times you soak in salt water. Avoid TCP, antibacterial soap or white spirits, as these can increase the irritation. You can buy a 2.5-5% Iodine solution from most chemists; Care+ Iodine Tincture is a well-known brand. This will sting a lot and turn the skin yellow for up to 24 hours, but it will also kill almost any skin infection.

If symptoms persist for more than three days without improvement it is important to see a doctor.

if its just a hard lump then its normal many kids and teens get these lumps when they get a facial peircing or other peircings it usually takes about 3 months or more to go away in the meantime just clean and take care of it but dont overclean it otherwise go back to the peircer and ask them whats wronga dn what you cabn do about it if there no help, ask a doctor
