I need a way out!

Ok so has anyone heard of emancipation? Does this exist in Canada? I know it does in the States. I am now living away from home with my grandparents because I was having some serious family problems. I don’t want to stay permanantly at my grandparents place but I am only 17 so I cant sign a contract for an appartment. I need to know is there something like emancipation in Canada?

You’re not going to stay permanently at your grandparents place, when you turn 18 you can leave… Since that is 6 months away, and generally court proceedings take a couple of months, it would be entirely pointless to go to court about this… also, it is going to take you a couple of months to get sorted… like find a place to stay, find a job which supports you, figure out transportation, etc etc… why dont you start saving money, be grateful you’re not paying rent for the next 6 months, and start looking at your options?

It varies depending on where you live. When you go to see an apartment, ask if you could sign a contract with a cosigner. Usually if this person is over 18 it is allowed. If this doesn’t work, I’m sure your grandparents won’t mind if you stay with them until you are of age to get your own apartment. Sam
