I'm scared of sleep
Maybe scared is the wrong word, but evey night I’m exhaused but can’t sleep. I feel like I’m wasting my life asleep, or think of excuses to get up again. It’s getting to the point where I only get an hour a night, and then fall asleep during the day. I don’t want to take medication, so can anyone offer any advice? This is a serious problem.
Yes. It is. Not sleeping can cause serious physical and mental issues. Including psychosis (I.e. you can lose touch of reality and basically go crazy). Somehow I dont think it is as simple as telling you that sleep is not a waste of time because if you dont get it, you will shorten your life considerably. I think you need to explore the reasons behind your reluctance to sleep. I honestly think you need to talk to a therapist…
I’m the same way, when I dont get much sleep at night I make sure I stay awake all day then go to bed around 10 or 11. I pretty much pass out that way. I get really sick if I dont get much sleep and my fiancee thinks I look like a zombie. Here are some other tips:
- dont eat for at least 3 hours before you go to bed
- no reading or watching tv for at least an hour
- make sure your not to hot or you wont be able to sleep
- make sure the room is very very dark, even a little light can keep you awake I follow these almost once a fortnight (when I break my sleep cycle again by having a nap during the day) So try not to nap during the day. I also tried a herbal pill that I put under my tongue half an hour before I went to bed and I had the best nights sleep of my life. It’s not really medication, I consider it an extra little push to help me sleep.
