I'm getting Married and I'm afraid to move out

why am I scared to move out? I’m 28 and have always lived at home

Answer #1

Moving on your own - the fear depends… are you buying a home, or renting?

My husband and I just bought a house and at 26 and 27 we were TERRIFIED! The idea of a mortgage and utilities, waste management, etc. in addition to our two children scared me despite knowing we could make the payments.

Owning vs Renting - owning scared me because now anything that goes wrong with my house, I’m responsible for. If the hot water heater breaks - I need to find a way to replace it. If my basement floods - I’m responsible.

Its a HUGE investment and while its awesome coming home and seeing this gorgeous little home and yard that is ours… it was really scary at first as we didn’t have that maintenance person to go to.

As far as your situation with being with your parents - assuming you never had to pay rent there… its a fear because of the amount of responsibility you will be undertaking. You will be facing rent or a mortgage, if you own utilities… and you have no safety net under you now.

The weight of the world and your future will literally lye on your shoulders. Its a bit rought at first, but trust me, once you get past the first few months you’ll love it.

Answer #2

Because you’re leaving the known and venturing into the relatively unknown - got to step up into adulthood…I wish you every happiness !!
