I don't want to be a catholic anymore!
Ok, well I was brought up as a catholic but I don’t believe any of it and I would much prefer to be an atheist. How would I make the switch?
P.S. Don’t leave messages saying give it a lot of though, Jesus will save you. I have already thought about that.
oops, sorry :)
Watch out for the Pope, I’ve heard he’s been into inquisition lately.
mikeh is right, there is no WAY of going about it.You are now officially an atheist
A religion whos followers are bunch of insane people that call themselves “Christians”
You are calling a whole lot of people insane. Is it not wrong to call people names? Obviously you don’t. It is because you don’t know what is right and what is wrong. Well a post from such a person should only be considered as blabbering by an ignorant and ignored.
believing every single word of a book that consists of 66 different books written by a bunch of random dudes which didn’t know that their books would be gathered together by a bunch of religious freaks and form the “bible”(+ some books were not included for some reason, the church chose which ones to include)
Since the one who wrote this does not know the right way of writing and proper words to use, I would like to help him.
…believing every single word of a book that consists of 66 different books written by [“a bunch of random dudes” should read “a group of ordinary people”]
which didn’t know that their books would be gathered together by
[“a bunch of religious freaks” should read “a group of inspired people”]
and form the “bible” (+ some books were not included
[“for some reason” should read “for being recognized as non-inspired”] , the church chose which ones to include)”
that believed that there is a god, and that that god had a son named Jesus that could speak to god, walk on water,
This part was written truly and correctly.
“summon bread rains and locust and all that kind of stuff,*
The Son did not do this. The writer does not know the Bible. Therefor he is condemning something without investigating. His condemnation cannot be valid.
In Ireland we say ‘slante’, and since it is Paddy’s Day…
Hey.., good luck with your brand new worldly status, Thenameisjess…
yes - you are an atheist. welcome to the world of thinking and figuring things out for yourself.
I just stay on the safe side of things and tell my friends “good one” when they sneeze. wouldn’t want to be saying “god bless you” in a foriegn language.
It is no wonder you are fed up. Catholicism is like that. But just for your Catholicism is not actually part of Christianity though it pretends to be so. So I appreciate you leaving it. But I would suggest that read Bible and understand what real Christianity is. That would make a difference.
But if you all closed up and bent on becoming a then no one can save you.
Of course I wouldn’t dream of telling you to ‘think it over’ or ‘Jesus will come and save you’. It’s your life, it’s your decision, and nobody should tell you anything different, so there!
Technically, there’s no problem about ‘making the switch’ as far as I know. You can simply stop going to church. Sooner or later you should probably inform your priest, but there’s no hurry. He’s not going to send the Inquisition after you.
So, just go ahead and believe or don’t-believe whatever you want to. At some point, you might want to look into Humanism as a non-religious alternative , but there’s no rush. Several good informative website, including www.humanism.org/ -
Good luck on your journey!
:) Boe thats exactly where I’m coming from…
Don’t worry, “gesundheit” means “good health,” which is why it’s perfectly safe and secular.
For me God is like Santa Clause or the Easter Bunny, or even the Toothfairy.

here is the answer you are seeking

After comments like that I often feel contaminated by the denigrating and undignified ugliness of religious thinking.
The nice thing about personal belief is there are no forms to fill out in order to make the switch. You want to be an atheist? Poof, you’re an atheist. Now go forth and annoy your friends by telling them to say “gesundheit” instead of “God bless you” when you sneeze.
jip. lol. or say it in my language.. gesondheid. haha. same thing…
Well, you could do what I did and just quit going to church. There’s no official sign up program to become an atheist. If you feel the need for ‘closure’, you could write a letter to the parish where you were baptized asking for excommunication.
I know you said not to but try some other type of christianity like be a lutheran cause they are a little more lax and it might help you clear your mind all im saying is in chatochism we are studying the end times and it makes me realize God does love us and if we dont believe in him when the day Jesus returns you wont be saved he will judge you and you will be condemed and locked away with the devil for eternity you have 1 judgement there are NO! second chances you may not make it to heaven infact you wont if you don’t believe in him so if you want to go to be with the devil well I guess thats your choice and the Holy Spirit will always extend a welcoming to getting to know Jesus don’t fall from Faith hold fast in it if you give up you gave the devil what he wanted just think about it im 13 I have thought about suicide and cutting myself but in the end God keeps me safe he stops me and shows me the right path and I know times get tough but stick with christianity its worth it when it comes to your soul :)
Thanks, but please no more messages telling me not to turn away from Jesus, I know what I want to believe and what I don’t want to believe.
“in chatochism we are studying the end times and it makes me realize God does love us and if we dont believe in him when the day Jesus returns you wont be saved he will judge you and you will be condemed and locked away with the devil for eternity”
You’ve gotta be kidding me. It’s like saying “by reading the story where God killed EVERY LIVING THING EXCEPT A FEW PAIRS on earth with a freaking flood, just because a few humans pissed him off, makes me REALIZE HOW KIND GOD IS”.
And, ofcourse, by creating satan, evil, hell, and all that kind of stuff, locking us away forever because we didn’t believe in something and giving us everlasting dose of torchure, just proves that he is sooo just and understanding, so loving~ My, why haven’t everyone converted to christianity yet?!
Eternallife, your exhibition of religious yapping bears nothing new or surprising in it. But it gives the impression that you have no problems with wasting a great part of your life on illusions.
Nah…, Thenameisjess made the right decision! Good for her!
I’m sorry you are no longer interested in the Catholic faith. I am a Catholic & I absolutely adore the religion. I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have about the religion. I don’t think you should give up on having faith just yet, but I’m not going to force the love of God on you.
“You are calling a whole lot of people insane. Is it not wrong to call people names? Obviously you don’t.”
Obviously “you don’t” what? Learn to write properly yourself before correcting others.
‘It is because you don’t know what is right and what is wrong.”
Oh damn, you got me. I have no morals! But that’s Satan’s doing, you have to understand.
“Well a post from such a person should only be considered as blabbering by an ignorant and ignored. “
Oh yeah… whatever you say… A post from a religious zealot that does not accept any kinds of scientific(or any other) facts that make his religion look contradicting and untrue, that simply states “no, that is wrong information” OR as you often do - simply doesn’t asnwer anything”, that claims that his religion is right and that what it says is absolutely true and factual(which it isn’t), knowing that there are a bunch of other religions saying the exact same thing, should obviously not be considered as blabbering by and ingnorant and also be ignored… yeah… I see your point…
“Since the one who wrote this does not know the right way of writing and proper words to use, I would like to help him.”
That was very kind of you. Thank you. I never would’ve though I’ve made so many “mistakes”~ dear god! By the way, instead of dramatizing over my post, you could, instead, answer a question or two, or correct some statements(that last one doesn’t counts), which wouldn’t make you look as silly as you do now.(Not that I used the word “silly”, not “stupid”. That’s realy nice of me, huh?)
“”summon bread rains and locust and all that kind of stuff,*
The Son did not do this. The writer does not know the Bible.”
Yeah. man, who’s this “Bible” guy? Never heard of him…
“Therefor he is condemning something without investigating.”
Wonder how I got the rest right then… ah! A miracle! D:
“His condemnation cannot be valid.”
Then neither are any of yours.
Anyway, take care !!
“So I appreciate you leaving it. But I would suggest that read Bible and understand what real Christianity is.”
Yes - A religion whos followers are bunch of insane people that call themselves “Christians” believing every single word of a book that consists of 66 different books written by a bunch of random dudes which didn’t know that their books would be gathered together by a bunch of religious freaks and form the “bible”(+ some books were not included for some reason, the church chose which ones to include) that believed that there is a god, and that that god had a son named Jesus that could speak to god, walk on water, summon bread rains and locust and all that kind of stuff, that later was killed by jews who knew he wasn’t actually the son of god or anything but simply another crazy dude.
Catholicism must be way better than the “original” Christianity…
Don’t leave CAtholisism! Jesus loves you! I’m a Catholic and even though somethings are hard to grasp we still have to believe them. Jesus died for you on the croos to show you his love. Don’t turn from him. Especially not to atheism! There is a God and he loves you! I wish I could make you change your mind! PLEASE! Talk to a priest before you leave the God who created you! I say this not only for you, but for your soul!
Atheism isn’t a religion, there’s no set of rules or doctrines to adhere to, so there’s no ‘conversion’ procedure. If you simply don’t believe that God exists… then poof you’re atheist. Just stop going to church, mass, and any related religious ceremonies or events.
Or you can still go if you want… but there’s not really any point.
Yeah, it’s so ridiculous it’s hard to believe that people can take bible seriously.
And it’s “Bou”, not “Boe” :P
