How to potty train my dog.

Bebe, my 9 months old chihuahua is so bad. She poops and pee everywhere in the house and she’s been doing this for the longest. Matter of fact, I don’t think she EVER goes outside because she got it twisted thinking indoor is where she goes, and outdoor is where she plays.

I put her nose into her mess everytime and hit her (not hard of course) and yell at her to let her know that is bad behavior. And then put her outside. I know she knows it’s bad because she’d look really sad and sorry with her head down and tail between her legs.

BUT HOURS LATER, we’d find a mess again made by her. I’m getting so frustrated. I love her so much, she’s a little spoiled brat. I don’t want to yell at her all the time but she’s not even learning. Please help.

Ditto to P, and you must get the odor out of the house. I don’t know how many pets you have, but it sounds like to me there is no structure, you need to let them know how is in charge, or they will just keep misbehaving and they will be confused about what there roll is, and yes this makes them just as unhappy as you. I know you can do it, but it does take time and engery on your part, not fustration and anger. Good luck, I have two chihuahua’s and yes you have to watch them like a hawk and stay on them, they will get it.

Putting her nose in it, and hitting her are the worst things you can do…all this “after the deed” punishment does nothing but confuse her…and scare her. You have to…again…invest some TIME.

Take her outside often…You have to watch her constantly so tie her to your beltloop. That way, she doesn’t have the opportunity to sneak off and go potty Then take her out…this is going to take a while, because the going in the house is so ingrained. Make a BIG happy time when she does go outside…don’t let her come in, until she goes. All time consumers at this stage of the game…but the only way there is to get her turned around.

This is Bebe.

Answer #4

take her outside frequently like every 30 minutes or so. keep her outside until she does..she will go to the bathroom.

Answer #5

I do that. in fact, I keep her outside most of the time lately and let her in only night time when she needs to sleep.

But she seems like she’s holding it all in until she gets inside and go all over.
