How to let go of someone you love deeply?

I have been a month and a half separated from my ex. He called me a few times after that, and even picked me up from work, but every time I called him back he denied ever calling me. As much as this is puzzling I just want to tell him I want him back so bad, and that I love him deeply. I dont want to act foolishly and needy, I know he needs his space but the more time we spend alone the more he will forget us, and that is just too painful for me to live with…besides I need him in my life period.
