Can my 14-year-old decide who he wants to live with?

My oldest son is getting ready to turn 14 he has told me that he would like to stop going to his mothers every other weekend. I live in Indiana and the divorce was here. Does the state of Indian rules say that kids at the age of 14 can decide for them self’s???

Answer #1

If it is because he is tired of ping pong travel, maybe you and his Mom can compromise on visitation. Even get a web cam so he could talk to the distant parent no matter where he was.

Answer #2

I think in indiana it is 14, 15, or 16. I can not remember. I would ask him why he doesn’t want to go there and you or he can speak to the mother to work out whateve problem there is.

Answer #3

I dont think he can decide for himself until he’s 18…however, some states if you go back to court might say that’s he’s old enough to make that decision but still may order him to go to his moms every other week or twice a month or something…that’s going to break her heart though, let me see if I can find it for you…

Answer #4

I didnt find anything on it, but I agree with maebee…see if theres a problem and it can be resolved first…
