Many animal derived products contain fats, particularly saturated fat, and are high in protein. For example, full cream milk is higher in fat and protein than juice; and steak or sausages contain much more fat and protein than a bowl of vegetables. If one was to be vegetarian, the chances are they would be eating less fat (therefore less calories) and less protein. Or, put another way, a vegetarian can eat much more food to obtain the same about of calories. Therefore, in this sense a person eating a vegetarian diet may consume less calories, fat and protein; and therefore loose weight. However, if a vegetarian ate a whole heap of margarine (plant derived fats), bread, lollies, and consumed a lot of food, they may not loose weight at all. Actually, interestingly enough, many of the plant derived margarines contain sterols, which help lower cholesterol and therefor help lower body weight. But yeah, if a vegetarian stuffed themself all day they probably wouldnt loose weight. But if they simply replaced meat derived products with vegetable derived products, the chances are they may loose weight.

There are equations you can use to calculate your energy intake, and estimate the amount of weight you may loose. Dietitians are qualified to do this. Dietitians are not Personal trainers, personal trainiers simply are well underqualifed to understand how it all works. I would personally reccomend a dietian, as they could help you balance a vegetarian diet so that you dont develop other problems, such as anemia.

Somewhere between very, very little and none and all. Losing weight has nothing to do with what type of food you eat and everything to do with how many calories you consume versus how many you burn. Eat 10,000 calories worth of beef and 10,000 calories worth of beans, you’ll gain the exact same amount of weight.
