How long can you be away from home before reported as a runaway?

My parents have been mad at me and expect me to just attend school, come straight home and do what they want me to do here. I want to be able to hang out with my friends for atleast a little while then come straight home. I don’t want to get in trouble from the cops again. Im 17 and I would like to know how long I can be away from home before reported as a run away…?

Answer #1

You won’t solve your problem by running away you know. You might even make things worse for you. Try to have a serious, mature and calm discussion with your parents instead; ask them why they are acting like this, explain them how you feel about it, and tell them wht you’d like to do instead (hanging out with friends etc) . Reassure them about you not smoking/having drugs or alcohol or anything, if that’s what they’re afraid of.

Answer #2

You more than likely wont be reported as a runaway but a missing person, and you could be gone for like 2 hours 2 be reported missing, I’ve had it happen to me several times

Answer #3

It depends on the state. Some states have laws that depend on age for minors. Some states (Texas for example), have no time period at all. If a minor is thought to be missing, immediate action is taken (the Amber law).

Answer #4

24 hours

Answer #5

Actually I believe it’s 48 hours.
