how do I talk to my dad?

okay, so I have a pretty full schedule and I live with my dad. when I come home after school, I usually want to talk to him and see how his day went. well, he always talks to me for ,maybe 2 minutes and then someone shows up or the phone rings…and I always have to be at work or practice by 5…so I dont get but 2 minutes. then when I get home, I think “hey, maybe I can talk to him now!” but then I walk in the door and anytime I make a noise, he shushes me becuase he is watching tv and right when the show is over, he goes to bed and wont talk to me. me and my dad used to be really close. I knew what was going on in his life and he knew EVERYTHING about mine. but now I will tell him I have to work till 9pm and I will leave and when I get home he always askes where I have been, like he wasn’t even paying attention the 5 times I told him…so its like the 2 min dont even count… :(

help? how do I get my dad back…?

Answer #1

You should definetly express your feelings to him.Who knows he may be depressed or he may be neglecting you for some reason that he only knows.Talk to your mom about this and try to get to the root of this situation.

Answer #2

You should definitely try to tell him how you feel, because he may not notice how he’s acting. If he doesn’t have time to listen to you, you could try to write him a note. It might be a good idea for you two to go on regular dinner “dates” or just go see a movie sometime. Its hard to find the time when you’re really busy, but sometimes you just have to make time for the ones you love.

Answer #3

tell him you want your old dad back & how bad you would feel if you lost him (as in friendship) tell him how much he means to you & how much you love him… :)

Answer #4

is there a way for you to eat dinner together with the TV off? I think if you made a big production of making dinner for the whole family you would get everyone’s respect and attention.

what about activities away from the house? bowling, coffee house, whatever he’s into?

sounds to me like the main problem is his distracted lifestyle, which is caused in no small part by the tv. get him away from it and he may pay attention to you

Answer #5

my parents are divorced/my mom wouldnt know

Answer #6

tell him how you feel and ask him to set time aside to talk to you.
