How do I break the habit of biting my nails?

I bite my nails. I bite them in class, in the car, when I watch TV… its a habit! Sometimes I got get them done or something, and the very next day, I start biting them again without really thinking about it. And Its not just my nails, its the skin around them too.. I chew that off, and my cuticles are not very attractive… If anyone has some advice they can give, please please let me know!

well if you ask me you could just bite the back of your nuckles like I do like when you go to bite your finger nails bend a finger and bite the bone that sticks up. it really works ttyl

Answer #3

ok this is your answer it totally works! k go get your nails done …and get them done all the time! then when you go to pick at your nails…it willl get harder and eventually you will grow out of that fase… beleive me it really WORKS! I PROMISE!!!

Answer #4

Rather than finding something to occupy your hands… buy a baby pacifier. It’s not your hands that need to be pacified, it’s your mouth. Just in case.. also buy that stuff you paint your nails with that tastes REALLY bitter. It’s made to stop nail biting. When I was little, it didn’t help much cause I’ve always had a habit of picking off nail polish anyways… so try the pacifier thing.

Answer #5

yup I had a habit of picking my split ends and it took 4ever 2 stop but wut I did was whenever I was goin 2 pick my split ends I would set my mind 2 sumthin else like I would eat a cookie or sumthin but make sure its sumthin small 2 not gain weight and after a while you 4get about your split ends then you wont have 2 eat anything anymore because of that!!!

Answer #6

Carry around a small container of nail polish remover and dip your fingers in it a couple times a day. Then when you go to bite your nails, it will taste horrible and hopefully you’ll stop! My sis had to do this, but I just made sure I painted the tips of my nails. Then I didn’t bite them because I didn’t want to mess up my manicure!

Good Luck. It’s so hard to break that habit!

Answer #7

Substitution works- I got a job once, where I didn’t have 2 minutes spare to bite my nails. I found I bit my nails because I was bored. So after I quit, I found the easiest way to stop biting my nails was to substitute it for something else- so I would keep spare bits of paper and make origami whenever I felt like biting my nails- it kept my fingers busy, so I couldn’t bite my nails.

Answer #8

I agree with the origami things, I had that habit but about five years ago I got into origami and you can do it with any scraps of paper you find so I haven’t bit them since.

Answer #9

chew gum, paint your nails, play with a little toy or something weird to occupy your hands

Answer #10
