How can I make the swelling around my lip piercing go down?

I got my lip pierced last week and my piercer, John, put in a longer stud because naturally, your lip swells after getting it pierced. I have to go back tomorrow so he can switch the jewelry to a shorter stud.

The swelling has gone down about 90%, but there is still some small swelling right around the jewelry. I’m afraid that my lip might hurt from the tighter jewelry, since its already sore (yellow sticky substance comes out whenever I soak my lip in warm salt water)…

What kind of anti-imflammatory would be best for something like this?

The small amount of swelling sounds normal.

After all, it hasn’t healed yet. It will take at least 3 months to heal

It’s not wise to change it now (after a week) as you’ll risk infection and prolong its healing time (it will take longer to heal).

So if you can and the longer bar isn’t bothering you, it would be better to leave them in.

Also you should be soaking them in sea salt, not plain salt. Sea salt can be found at most supermarkets and you put a teaspoon/tablespoon in with a cup of warm water.

=) yeah im using sea salt.. although I use more than one tbsp in a cup of warm water.. I got it at walmart.

partly, I would like to keep the longer bar in, because the risk of getting infection and prolonging the healing time, and because I like playing with it with my tongue ;p

but it is quite bothersome when im eating cause ill accidentally bite the bar and it hurts sooo much when that happens cause it jolts it roughly.
