How bad of dry skin will I get when taking accutane?

I heard that accutane is the only proven medication and that completely clear your skin and keep it clear, but it will give you bad dry skin for 5 to 6 months. I’m okay with having slightly dry skin as long as its not too bad and I don’t look down right horrible. Is it bad enough that I won’t want to be out in public or anything like that? and will moisturizer or other products help with it?

It depends from person to person. In general I’ve seen that it dries out people’s skin pretty badly, however you don’t see that it is dried out, but people do complain of a lot of discomfort.

Also you won’t be able to go into the sun for the time you are using it.

But if your acne is really bad then it works. (I personally don’t like it, because it can have a lot of side effects).

Also your lips will get really dried out and remember to use lanolin on your lips. (That is what we give people that go on it over there, because it is the only thing that helps for the dryness)

I took Accutane back when I was a sophmore in highschool. It doesnt dry out your skin THAT bad, no more then washing it with soap. However the medication will make you burn in the sun very easily.

Make sure you get the proper blood work done while taking this medication because it is very strong.

Results may vary person to person so it may make your skin dry out more then mine but I dont think it should be a problem
