what will the hospital do for my mental illness?

I tried to commit suicide, and the cops and EMS came to my house and I spent the day in the hospital doing lots of screening and tests, bloodwork, etc. At the end of the day, me and my dad talked with a consellour for maybe five minutes, and then they just sent me home. I never had to see a therapist after that or go to a mental hospital. I never had to take any medications. So, the school will NOT take you to a psych ward simply because you are having suicidal thoughts. It’s not in their place to do so. What will probably happen is that you will talk to a consellour, and the consellour will decide if you really are suicidal, depressed and/or have a real will to die, or if your thoughts are coming from something else. More than likely the consellour will try and work with you through this, and there will be no need to go to a hospital. If you do need further help, a doctor or other mental health professional will probably consult with you and from there you will decide if you need to be on anti-depressants or a medication to help you with your thoughts. If I was you, I would be open and honest with your parents and tell them what’s going on before seeing a consellour. I hope all goes well :)
