Will permanent dye ruin chances for highlights?

I have dark brown hair and I have been dying my hair for quite awhile now. I have used semi-permanent dyes in the past but I used a permanent dye about a month ago. Can I still get blonde highlights or will the permanent dye prevent me from getting them??x x

Hi emmaaaaa,

I suggest using semi-permanent hair dye instead of permanent. Semi-permanent dye has fewer chemicals depositing on your hair, and less ammonia and other chemicals that will damage hair and possibly prevent the highlights.

Also, wait at least three days between these chemical processes you’re doing on your hair. Use a base on your scalp before you apply anymore color or chemical to protect your scalp from burning or any abrasions you may have already created. IF YOU want your hair to be lighter…you will have to lighten it in stages. I suggest going to a professional salon.

Good luck!
