Why does my grandfather being il feel like a dream?

I just don’t understand!!! My grandfather is ill now…I’ve just heard it now…and just don’t understand…family is shoked…mom, sisters are crying…but I haven’t understand(((doctor said that he can die…I can’t believe that, I feel that it’s a dream…y is it so? May be I’m just egoist?

I felt the same way, I felt it was a dream when my grandfather died of cancer. Like what other people said its denial. When I got to call my dad told me and I got mad at him bc I thought he was lying. We all have a way to cope.

I felt the same way when my gramma was diagnosed with cancer. It didnt seem real. and it felt like I was asleep. and none of it was really happening, Then when she died las november. I felt like she wasnt gone. And that we were going to go to the hospital and visit her… still feels like that and its been a year…

It is one of the stages of grief, the first stage is denial. You don’t want to believe it, it feels like a dream that isn’t really happening. Its a way to help you cope with something big that is happening. But don’t worry! Your grandfather is ill, he may be just fine and come right out of it! Hopefully he will get better and everything will be okay that is the best you can hope for.

We all must move through these stages to overcome something traumatic or sad and everyone experiences them. If you feel yourself become really upset talk to your family about it, chances are they are going through the exact same thing.
