Help for a Saint

I have a Saint Bernard that I got from an animal rescue league. He is a great big, loveable fellow. He has a paw he limps on. We have been to the vet twice and she can find nothing wrong. He licks it often. Any ideas as to what may be the problem?

I would seek another vet, as well. There are a number of things that could be wrong here and I’d imagine that a proper vet would keep on it if the doggie keeps limping and babying it.

It could be related to the pads on his paw or even his nails. If anything is lodged in there, it could be causing pain and the need for him to try to clean his paw. But, I imagine when he did put any pressure on his paw, he’d be yelping.

Best advice would be to seek out another vet and start over. I know that’s frustrating. I would call around and try to find a vet that has some experience with giant breeds (danes, saints, pyranees, newfs, wolfhounds, mastiffs and so one) because like funguy said, it could be something related to arthritis, which our pups are prone to.

Could be arthritis. If this is a new condition and your vet isn’t helping then you really should seek a second opinion.
