Help/At what age should I spay my female?

I have a 7 month old short hair dachshund. Her mama was ill and I bottle fed 3 of the 5 in the litter for 10 days to help with the mothers recovery. As a ‘thank you’ I was able to have my pick of the litter. From the beginning I loved the runt, I, even then gave her the name of ‘Honey.’ She has a ready made family of myself, my husband and seven daughters, ranging in the age from 8 to 27. Also, 2 other dachshunds, 1 male/10 years and 1 female/12 years and a 14 year old toy poodle and 3 cats. She likes them all except the other dachshund female. I know that I would never be able to give away her babies, so I have decided to spay her. I was advised to let her have her first season/heat and then fix her. I understand that most female dogs come into heat between the ages of 6 months to 1 year. Is this correct? Do I need to wait to have her spayed? Are there concerns one way or the other? I thank you all for your help. I love animals first (other than my family) and then humans next. Jane

Answer #1

Now is the correct answer

Answer #2

she is old enought now. We do it at 6 months where I work. Call your vet and make appointment

Answer #3

Spay her now. She is old enough…plenty old enough. I am assuming that all your other animals are spayed/neutered…if not, they should be also, unless a Vet states they are too old or for medical reasons. A spayed animal is healthier, happier and lives longer.
