Female dogs and spaying

if you have a female dog, how much do they bleed when they get their monthly “period?” and if you get your dog spayed, do they still bleed monthly and all that?

Answer #1

!Some do bleed more than others! They do have Doggie Diapers, you can buy which will help, eliminate some of the mess, the bleeding can cause! When a female is Spayed, she no longer, goes into heat, and no longer bleeds!

My dog has been spayed and still bleeds. From all the reading I’m doing this seems to be rare. Debating on going back to the vet to ask about it.

Spay and never worry about it. Do this about 5 to 6 months old. I say 5 months because many females get their first heat at 6 months.

A heat is 21 days of worry that no males get to her. Hurting her feelings because your crate her so that she doesn’t bleed all over everything. Your poor female doesn’t know why she is bein put up. Doggie diapers are a pain too, because she will hate them and most likely tear them off.

Spay, call your vet and make an appointment

^^ yeah don’t worry I WANT a spayed dog, lol. no little doggy diapers in my house! I’m adopting a dog soon that’s a female, and it’s the first female pet I’ve ever owned. she’s already spayed, but I was just wondering if they still bleed even after being altered, because my mom was concerned about her furniture :)

thank you everyone.

PS, im the one who asked this question, haha :)

After being spayed they stop. Also my dog never bled but she did keep her tail up and have liquid released. It a phemone released into the air to let other dogs know their ready…

Hi,

They will bleed little drops here and there, and sometimes it mixes with the urine to make it look pink. It does make a mess, but pet stores do carry little diaper pads for them. It looks silly though.

Spaying WILL stop the menstruation, and also decrease their risks of vaginal or ovarian cancer.

I never realised dogs had periods! Is that the same with cats as well? Sorry I know this is not my thread..

Answer #9

no!my pup is bleeding and she was spayed last week? now I’m starting to panic after reading all this too.

Hello!

It’s enough blood to damage/stain blankets, bedspreads, carpet, furniture, etc. Although it shouldn’t necessarily stain.

The best option would be to spay your dog.

The best place to do this would be an Animal Shelter, because some of them offer cheaper spays, but usually don’t have an overnight option.

Your dog will be healthier, happier, and ‘cleaner’. We had awful experiences with my female when she was younger, with all of the blood although it wasn’t too bad.

But like Editor said, the chances of any cancers are very slim after surgery, and in the process you could save a few dogs by stopping pet population and doing what’s best for you, and your dog.

Good Luck. :)

I just want to post that in older dogs, if there is fat or the ovary isnt where its suppose to than accidently the vet might think the fat is the ovary and if that is done than the female dog still will bleed , like shes in heat, she cant get pregnant but its such an issue, male dogs still come around. the blood is just like shes in heat. I had such an issue I had them to go back in and find the ovary. now she doesnt bleed, so please be warned they can miss the ovary, in big and older females.
