What happened with Egypt's access to social networking sites just now?

i’ve heard that they can’t get on them, why??

Answer #1

Because of the riots, the president shut down internet, it shud b back on now though, that’s wat I heard

Answer #2

yeah the government shut down the internet maybe to stop protests flooding the internet or something?

Answer #3

Last I read (today) only one ISP was left and only “critical” internet services were running…

…if you were a dictator about to get ousted, it kind of makes sense to craft the message if you can. What’s wrong though is the US government was behind the guy….

Answer #4

I just spoke with a friend in Egypt on Yahoo Chat this evening. She said their internet connections have been restored in the last couple days. She makes her living as a tour guide, and said her business has completely failed since all tourists are being evacuated and she is now looking for other work.

Egypt is one of the world’s most ruthless military dictatorships and Mubarak’s regime has no problems cracking down on any potential source of opposition. That means censorship to the extreme, and what greater source of potential opposition than a social networking site like Facebook, where people can communicate instantly what is happening? Egypt hasn’t had a peaceful transition in power for many generations, and this looks to be no different.

Answer #5

its so they cant all get in contact with each other and plan other things like protesting and stuff!! He thought it would eliminate so much socializing

Answer #6
