Guitar Advice: Sweep Picking

Have you mastered the ability to sweep pick? How long did it take you to do this? Do you have any nuggets of wisdom obtained through struggling with this technique?

Answer #1

I pretty good with sweep picking now. It took about 2 months for me to get like this. Just practice sweeping some arpeggios…also get some videos form youtube on sweep picking. Get one by a dude called “alshredo”, that helped me. And just practice the sweep very slowly to get the technique right and then slowly build up the speed of your sweeping as you improve.

Start with a 3-string A-minor arpeggio. That’s what I started with. Also, try to play songs that have sweeping like “Afterlife” by Avenged Sevenfold, the intro solo to “Fade to black” by metallica…any thing like that.

I’m alright at sweeping and it took me awhile to get it but just use a couple of strings to start out with and when you get good with 3 or 4 try 5 which is pretty hard but practice practice practice

Answer #3

I can sweep pick pretty well. I just looked up a few vids on youtube. Lemme see if I can find you a good one.. It took me a few days to really get it, though..

Answer #4

I’ve found several good videos. Thank you.

I’m just interested in talking to someone with some real, personal experience. How many hours do you think you put into it, total? What sort of arpeggios do you practice?
