Great Dane Mix

Help Me! I just got a Great Dane German Shepard Mix he’s 8 weeks old, and I don’t know what to feed him. I’ve been reading that great danes shouldn’t eat puppy food… but since he’s a mix I didn’t know WHAT HE SHOULD EAT! My vet just said any puppy food, and didn’t really help me out with any of my questions. Also what else should I know about these dogs. I want to make sure he’s as healthy as can be. Also fitness? how much should he being playing at a time??

It’s fine to use puppy food and definately listen to your vet. They know best.

  1. Make sure that the food is designed for puppies. Puppies require higher amounts of calories, proteins, and fats to compensate for their growth. Check on the back of the bag to see how much you should be feeding it. You shouldn’t be able to feel a puppy’s ribs but if you run a finger down its side then you should be able to feel them.
  2. Make sure there are high quality ingredients such as chicken and not chicken meal. There will almost always be chicken listed first and then chicken meal farther down the list because they order the ingredient list based on weight before the food is made and since the meal is a powder it ways a lot less than raw chicken.
  3. Make sure that the food uses natural preservatives rather than artificial ones

Excercise: You puppy will know when enough is enough. In most cases, when they’re done and want to sleep, they lay down and go to sleep.
