Gothic

Ok my question is, why does so many people believe that everyone in the gothic community are devil worshippers, and also why do they believe if your gothic your emo? It gets really old with the stereotyping people, but w/e just wanted to throw that out there… An I know goth is not a religion but I cant find “cultures”

Answer #1

They think weer devil worshipers because of the tv and movies, Vampires wear black, therefore anybody wearing black is evil, they think were emo because we must be since were devil worshipers. You know how we are, we hang out with witches and demons. Oh and don’t EVER wear anything but black too, Or else your trying to hide and need to be exposed

some people really need to get a clue,

whats so bad about gothic I go to a gothic club called “the criped” and its gothic I go there all the time

Answer #3

Goth/gothic as we know it actually comes from the rock music scene. But it’s original origins can be found from an East Germanic Tribe considered barbarians.

Where as emo came from hardcore punk that used music to express personal politics rather than that of the community. The music and lyrics became -emotional-

People tend to label things as evil when they don’t understand them. Goth is dark and macabre so it isn’t too much of a stretch to tack on satanic worshiping if you’re ignorant and afraid.

I have to agree with thex13thxchild too, My best friend isn’t Goth or Emo, or anything in fact he’s about as redneck as you can get without living in the woods, and he jokes me about dressing for the funeral and I joke him about the grease permanently embedded in his body, when I do he’ll just laugh and say “ Well I am a gear-head, and a car must have fell on me cause you look like your ready for my funeral “ We don’t stereotype each other and none of his friends put me in any category but a person, I guess thats why we’ve been friends since we were in Kindergarten.

Isn’t it crazy, especially give the fact that a pole in the early 2000’s revealed that 77% of Goths were Christians(probably less now, so I would believe). It’s because we’re different and dare challenge the norm. People do not understand so they just write it off as something demonic, devaluating it.

I believe the explanation for being mistaken as Emo, well, just look how the Mall-Goths dress, then look how the modern emo dresses. It's pathetic. I'm beginning to think it was better being grouped with metal heads and punks than these modern Emo freaks, perhaps that's just me.
I find it sad that the subculture has been perverted to such an extent
Answer #6

I think it’s really stupid when people stereotype other people. Goths don’t bother me at all. My friend, people at her school come up to her all the time asking her if she’s goth or emo just because sometimes she wears black. Which I wear black sometimes and I wear dark makeup but I don’t identify myself as a goth or emo. I’m just me. But yeah I don’t mind goths and I feel you should only judge people based on personality.

Answer #7

I totally agree with thex13thxchild, I would much rather be grouped with the metal heads and punks, but I still dont believe people should stereotype our culture, and im actually curious as to the percentage of christians in our culture we have now…

Answer #8

no, goths do not call out for attention, gothic is a subculture that embraces the fact that all things must come to an end, we like various types of art, such as music literature and paintings, yes we do wear a lot of black, and the black is like a reprsentation that we are open to everybodies beliefs and lifestyles, even the way they feel, if you want to know anything else just funmail me…

Answer #9

devil worshippers are satanic. Satanic would wear a lot of dark colors most of the time, but not the same kind of spiritual dark gothic clothing. emo= emotional. you know, stereotyped as cutters. Not all the time . Satanic = satan worshippers. Goth =, I guess kind of a way of life. Maybe it is a culture, its deff. not a religion. you look at life in a different way then others. I hope this helped a bit :)

Answer #10

When people come up to me and say “oh, are you sapposed to be emo?” I say im courtney. Then they say “what would you label yourself as?” I say courtney. I wont say I have never stereotyped before, I think its majorlly hard to never do it, but we shouldnt let it be how we think. What people like as a style and what they believe in shouldnt be anything but who they are. a lot of the time people will stereotype themselves too and thats just as wrong. Everyones defferent and unique, we all see things defferently.

Answer #11

yea, yall see it like me then its a type of culture, not a religion, we live a not so different lifestyle than other “normal” as they like to be called, peoples life, ok im just as normal as anyone else, I might paint my fingernails black an always dress in black and not fear dying but welcome it bc its part of life, so if people wanna say im wierd or strange, ok go for it im wierd then lol, I dont hate them for it but its aggravating…
