Good ways to find adoptive families for kittens.

Does anyone know of places other than the humane society, and just putting up postings for finding loving homes for kittens? I am in michigan. I do understand the risk involved in just putting up postings and the danger it could put the kittens (whom the longer I have the more I love, but can’t have more.)in. I want them to have good homes, and it would be great if they could go together, but they are pretty self entertaining too. I have no problem supplieing some of the necesseties for them. A friend from work suggested that I just give people money to take them, but they could take the money and then just drop them off on the side of the road or worse. Thanks for any tips you have. Have a great day.

Put an add in the news paper…”If no one buys these kittens in 2 weeks I`ll shoot em!!!” Then put a pic of a sleeping kitten with a gun to its head. Youl be surprised on how many people call so quickly. They will have good homes to. 9 times out of 10 an animals rights active or a tree hugger will call. Hope I help. : ]

Craigslist would be my first suggestion.

I work at the Humane Society in Miami Florida on weekends. It’s kitten season right now, so we are completely overrun with kittens. And they just aren’t moving. No one is adopting them. The best thing to do is just get your cat spayed so it doesn’t happen again, unfortunately. Don’t pay people to take them, they will take the money and run. If anything, charge people $10 or $20 to adopt them. Many people will take free kittens or small dogs and then 1) sell them to labs for animal testing or 2) use them as “bait” dogs in dogfighting.

It’s the sad truth.

Try a pet store. . . or Craigslist. . . http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites.html

yes, NEVER offer your pets for free. I have worked in research for many years and know many researchers who get “free dogs and cats” to use. to purchase research animals is very expensive. some dogs will cost $800+. that comes out of your grant money. it is much easier for them to get them for free. dog fighting rings are another reason not to give them away. editor is right on the mark with her answer. I would try friends and craigslist. ask to see their house or apartment (take a friend or parent) before you sell them. and please, to agree with editor again, spay your cat. they will live a longer, healthier life.
