God- why pain and suffering..?

I remember hearing once something that made perfect sense to me. Something about how god putting his children through pain and suffering was something like a parent letting their child ride a bike even though they would get hurt..I dont remember but I would really like to hear it again. Thanks

Answer #1

I want to thank marianna86, that was exactly what I wanted to hear I don’t have an argument, just a desire to hear all opinions christianity is complicated, and I don’t pretend to understand it in its entirety, and I enjoy hearing opinions that are carefully thought out and articulated

captainassassin, do I ever sympathize with you. I hate to hear that suffering is simply part of the world, and I hate it even more when it makes sense to people. Suffering is so unnatural! Because we have less faith in the divine we should be punished? Even though we are good people, innocent of any crime greater that failure to complete a homework assignment? But I respect people greatly who can accept that suffering exists, and bear it with their faith intact.

I want to know how Christians can justify the world being the place it is. I want to hear from the majority of the world why we need pain. I will never agree. My belief in a loving god is long since dead, but I want to know how others explain the contradictions in their belief. We can’t have intelligent discussions without a knowledge of both sides. We cannot claim to know that something that people spend their lives studying is not real without understanding exactly what they believe. I want to be able to decide for myself what the truth is, instead of sitting in a church blindly accepting.

Thank you for your answers

You described my advice as being Ignorant subjective bs …and your basing it on what …your opinion?

No, I’m basing it on your ignorance, and your subjective misrepresentation of Christianity. Maybe you should look at your initial statement OBJECTIVELY, and see what you did wrong.

So it’s okay for YOU to have an opinion but it’s not okay for me?

Are you stupid? Of course its okay for you to have an opinion; just as its okay for me to tell your your opinion is WRONG.

Point number (2)

You have to first PROVE they are God’s Words. Until you do, you’re just cherrypicking random scriptures as if they’re connected.

Point number ( 3)

Don’t repeat yourself, its pointless. Besides, your representation of your faith (actually your lack thereof) is what’s ‘unprofessional’ and ‘insulting’ TO ME.

So basically the only thing I can argue about with you is point number 1) which I am very much obliged to help.I can argue that my advice is based on the scriptures by proving evidence that it is FROM the scriptures.

You failed.

This thread is about Why God Allows Pain and Suffering and as far as I can see you didn’t put any input beside criticizing me for having an opinion.

Yeah, and I get to do that. You’re criticized IN RESPONSE to your arrogance and insensitivity regarding the degrees of relative suffering between believers and non-believers. You failed to justify your statement THEN, and NONE of the scriptures you provided, made up for it.

Captainassassin

If you are going to shoot down others opinions(especially about christainity) you need to have proof(or some form of background info) as well. She profided scripture for you. you should take the time to read these verses before you make someone feel bad. Everyone has their own opinion and you can dissagree, but its really rude to act the way you did.

My answer to this question- God doesn’t cause the pain and suffering, it’s peoples poor faith ans satan… God allows it to test your faith. Being a christian is tough… But remember… Bring your problems to god, he answers prayers…

Answer #4

People who are faithful to God and people who aren’t ,experience pain and suffering. The difference is when your faithful to God your pain will never exceeded what you can handle

That’s a load of nonsense, everyone has the ability to handle their suffering. I’m a non-believer and there has never been a time when my suffering was too great. But in any case, I suppose that is the answer that the person answer the question wanted in any case…

Everyone suffers…(there’s even suffering and pain in nature)

According to believers:

  1. God puts you through suffering to test you

  2. If you do not believe in god, then you’ll suffer because you do not believe in him.

Point is: You’re going to suffer, whether you believe in a god or not.

Answer #5

Dear ifeelcrazy123,

Yes good point.I agree everyone does suffer.Don’t matter who you are faithful or not.

Answer #6

That’s not true.Believers experience heavy burdens but none that would be more than they can handle.Unbelievers they’re the one that experience terrible pain.

That is totally ignorant subjective bullsh*t…

Okay that’s my view of pain and suffering basing it on God’s word.If you want to argue with me base it on God’s word.If not then don’t bother.

  1. You’ve provided no references to verify that you are in fact ‘basing’ your opinions on God’s word. Scriptures? Verses? Anything? No… nothing.
  2. The very term ‘’God’s word’’ is subjective an opinionated.
  3. Be less arrogant… pride is a sin.
Answer #7

The bible says God uses pain and suffering as a tool to bring us closer to him. Almost verbatim. Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for but it’s an explanation

Answer #8

Hi,

There are only two types of pain and suffering IN this world:

1.One that is caused by our own sins.

2.One that is allowed by God.

1.The first one is a consequence of what we did wrong. If we do wrong and don’t admit it to God , get right with God or other people and say we’re sorry. We fall under a curse and from that point on bad things happen. Not only bad things that we see coming even bad things that we don’t.For example the only way for Satan to be able to control you is if you did something wrong.Unlike Job,Satan couldn’t touch him because he was a good man and when he did wrong he always offered sacrifices to say he was sorry for him and his family. If you haven’t said sorry to God yet that gives Satan the right to bring all kinds of suffering on you.Whether it be sickness, poverty, depression, addiction, sexual immorality and really any sort of unfortunate event he chooses. But if you do come to understand what you did wrong and want to change and say sorry to God or others you’ve hurt. You are released from the curse and Satan can’t do anything unless he asks for God permission first.

2.The second pain and suffering is one that is allowed by God.

Now why would a loving Father allow you to be in pain and to suffer?

Pain is the only thing that can dramatically shape us.

Most people who have been through pain change. Some for the good others for the worst.

People who are faithful to God and people who aren’t ,experience pain and suffering. The difference is when your faithful to God your pain will never exceeded what you can handle.SO it will never get to a point where you will be dragged of by a serial killer and cut to pieces in a lonely shed. And what’s even more amazing is if you did,you would be given the strength to surpass it.(Not that I ever heard of one.)

Just like Job was able to handle having HIS ENTIRE family die all on the SAME DAY,his business ruined, his friends leave and blame him,his body stricken with diseases. That’s why when Stephen was stoned to death he didn’t feel any pain. His body was numb and he died in peace.

Unbelievers don’t see it like that they look at that and they think, “Hey both bad and good people experience terrible pain. That’s not true.Believers experience heavy burdens but none that would be more than they can handle.Unbelievers they’re the one that experience terrible pain.Like anything goes with them.Like all those weird no happy ending suspense movies anything goes with their lives. And absolutely no guarantee. And yes the law of the jungle applies, survival of the fittest. To believers you don’t have to be the fittest you just have to believe and all the universe will have no choice but conspire for you to survive. That’s how David beat Goliath. That’s God’s merciful power and loving grace.

Anyways the reason God allows suffering and pain in our lives is for us to change. We get shaped to be more like Jesus or Christ like. When we suddenly become poor.God wants us to learn to trust in Him and not our riches. When we are in need of an answer.God keeps us waiting so we can learn to be more patient. So we learn to have faith no matter what the circumstances are.Our faith will be tested till it is pure.Like purifying gold it has to be burnt till it is pure 100%.Really that is your purpose in this world. To be like Jesus. And every single pain and suffering that you experience is a test.A test where you can CERTAINLY beat the odds.NO matter how terrible it looks to unbelievers or to you YOU CAN BEAT THE ODDS.That’s how it was designed. And there’s NO WAY you could have failed unless you chose to give up in the middle.

Okay that’s my view of pain and suffering basing it on God’s word.If you want to argue with me base it on God’s word.If not then don’t bother. One cannot communicate if their speaking two different languages.Just like one can’t play chess and the other checkers and ask to compete.

Okay I hope this helps.(:-)

Awesome Question by the way!!!

Dear Carptainassasin,

You described my advice as being Ignorant subjective bs- Captainassasin

…and your basing it on what …”your opinion?”

So it’s okay for YOU to have an opinion but it’s not okay for me?

And I am arrogant?…ironic…

From the three points you have stated…

Point number (2) I have clearly stated that I will not argue with someone if it is not based on God’s words. That means if you can contradict me using the basis of God’s word then we can have an argument.

Point number ( 3) I don’t see how I am being arrogant.I am not stopping you from having opinions so why should YOU?And it would be much more professional not to argue with insults as calling other advices bs based on you opinions. It is okay to agree to disagree you know.

So basically the only thing I can argue about with you is point number 1) which I am very much obliged to help.I can argue that my advice is based on the scriptures by proving evidence that it is FROM the scriptures.

If you want to argue about the term “God’s word” then I suggest you look up any question of “IS GOD”S WORD REAL?” This thread is about “Why God Allows Pain and Suffering” and as far as I can see you didn’t put any input beside criticizing me for having an opinion.

Biblical Reference:

(1)[1.The first one is a consequence of what we did wrong. If we do wrong and don’t admit it to God , get right with God or other people and say we’re sorry. We fall under a curse and from that point on bad things happen.]

Proverbs 28:13: If you don’t confess your sins you will be a failure.

But God will be merciful if you confess your sins and give them up.

(2)[gives Satan the right to bring all kinds of suffering on you.Whether it be sickness, poverty, depression, addiction, sexual immorality and really any sort of unfortunate event he chooses]

Satan can put ideas in your head.Yes including sexual immorality, drug addiction and any bad things you can think of

I Chronicles 21:1 :”Satan decided to cause trouble for Israel by making David THINK it was a good idea to find out… “.

Satan can bring sickness

Job 2:7:Satan left and caused painful sores to break out all over Job’s body–from head to toe.

Satan can control you when you are wrong

John 13:27:Right then Satan took control of Judas. Jesus said, “Judas, go quickly and do what you have to do.”

3.[You are released from the curse and Satan can’t do anything unless he asks for God permission first.]

Job 1:12:The LORD replied, “All right, Satan, do what you want with anything that belongs to him, but don’t harm Job.” Then Satan left.

4.[People who are faithful to God and people who aren’t ,experience pain and suffering. The difference is when your faithful to God your pain will never exceeded what you can handle.]

Matthew 11:29-30:Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.

People who are faithful to God experience pain and suffering.

Psalm 116:10:I was faithful to you when I was suffering,

People who are unfaithful to God will experience pain and suffering.

Romans 2:9:All who are wicked will be punished with trouble and suffering.

No test is greater than you can bear

I Corinthians 10:13:No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.

5.[Anyways the reason God allows suffering and pain in our lives is for us to change. We get shaped to be more like Jesus or Christ like.]

Romans 5:3We gladly suffer, because we know that suffering helps us to endure. And endurance builds character

Okay if you still want more references I’ll try my best to find more.Okay take care good luck.Awesome point number 2!!

Oh ymaa11 I hope this can help you understand a bit.Okay (:-) hehe…looks like to much verses but it wil make you understand where I’m coming from with my advice.I hope it helps okay xxx
