Goats Horn Breaks

I have a 5-6 month old Boer Goat, and her right horn broke at the base of her head. And is still hanging by a little bit of skin I’m assuming? Her horn is laying completely forward, and she won’t really let me examine the area to see what exactly is still connected. She bled quite a bit at first, but stopped bleeding shortly after. Right now we’ve got some 4x4 size gauze covering the area with some medication ointment for horses and animals, and some stuff that’s supposed to keep away flies.

Anyway, obviously the horn is going to have to finish coming off, but I dont’ know if we should try cutting it, if so.. how? or would it fall off by itself? And if we’re bandaging it right? Also too does anyone know if it’ll grow back?

She’s not foaming at the mouth, and is up and around like normal, eating, drinking, etc. Only big difference in her right now.. is she is a LOT more skittish around people and other animals now due to her injury.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance!

Answer #1

keep an eye on it in case flies get into it. toni

Answer #2

I would try to cut it off. Depending on how much skin it is hanging by you should use just a normal sharp object. It will grow back over time! Her skittishness will fade in time, probably when her injury is BETTER.
