How to give a maltese dog a haircut?

like a puppy cut

( I have a few questions

I know this is going to sound stupid but I’m so confused! :S

  1. Can clippers cut a dogs skin? I was watching a video online from a professional groomer on how to groom dogs she said the clippers won’t cut the skin, you don’t have to worry about cutting the dogs skin & she turned the clippers on & it didn’t cut her at all!

  2. is it ok to cut like the whiskers part? how do you cut the whiskers part?

  3. how do you get the hair from out of the ears?

  4. how do you shape the face short?

Lastly please…. don’t say “find a groomer” or “get a professional”

I’ve groomed my dog many times before I know how to do everything else but the things above I’ve questioned I really want to learn this & the groomer I’ve had for many years has moved because shes retired from the grooming business & I don’t want to take her to any other groomer I’ve taken her to many groomers for example: petco, petsmart I think & some local groomers

they have all left her with either missing patches of fur, one shaved her tail completely, rough handling her etc. I don’t want to keep wasting $40 to $100! on crappy groomers who can’t do a simple thing as shave a dog down to 1/4 of an inch all over!

Every time I’ve given her a haircut its turned out great just how I like it!

& I don’t want her to go through another bad experience with a groomer ever again!

If you have any tips or anything that would be great!

Thanks so much! )

Answer #1

scissors or clippers.

Answer #2

To be safe using the clippers use a fine tooth comb to raise the pooches hair and then run the clippers accross the hair. This also helps get an even cut. After all the hair is off you can then run the clippers accross the dogs hair to even it out.

Do not cut the wiskers. This helps them with balance.

Be very careful when cutting the hair from the ears and face. This must be done with scissors.
