Gaps in the bible show the question of Christianinty.

okay so here’s the deal.. some odd years ago God flodded the Earth because of bad people and Moses and family landed in jerusalem and where the only ones to live right? well they reproduced and his decendant, christopher columbus, sailed the ocean blue in 1842 according to history. how did people get to North and South America is everyone died in the world and only reproduced in europe???

Anyway, besides, the greeks had alluded to a spherical Earth centuries BC.

The ancient hebrews knew circle from sphere, they had word meaning round. Ball would have even been more appropriate “He will surely violently turn and toss thee like a BALL (duwr) into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there the chariots of thy glory shall be the shame of thy lord’s house.” (Isaiah 22:18)

A circle is a flat object, Isaiah 40:22 used the word circle to describe the earth. The Bible just reflects the flat earth notion that was held by ancient hebrew.

Job 26:7 contradicts the other parts of the Bible, the other parts say the earth rests upon foundations.

“He established the earth upon its foundations, so that it will not totter, forever and ever.” (Psalm 104:5)

“He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved.” (Psalm 104:5)

“For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s, and he set the world on them.” (1 Samuel 2:8)

“Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm …” (Psalm 93:1)

“That it might take the earth by the EDGES and shake the wicked out of it?” (Job 38:13)

“Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. “”(Job 9:6)

Hey Rissa-08,

If you would have been sincere about your Bible-quotations, you would have mentioned the passages that Nlocnill quoted too.

Why do you pick and choose to match your own opinion? Why do you think that people are naive enough not to check your reference?

Hey Sammysam7149,

Good thinking! Keep it up. I know that some of your facts are a bit out (columbus sailed first in 1492, and it was suppose to be Noah with his boat), but your general question is a good one.

The Bible is a collection of many different ancient texts. Because of their circumstances, the authors were not informed about rational facts (geography of the planet, the nature of the universe, laws of physics, historical evidential material, microbiology, etc.). So, their stories do hardly ever add up with reality.

Later (about 1600 years ago), a group of religious men collected many of those text and picked a selection. That selection has evolved (literally!) into the book that is now known as the Bible. The age of those texts range over a time-span of about 1200 years (appr. 1000BC-200AD) and do not always mesh so well. Hence the Gaps.

Many people have lost their believe in God by studying the Bible. The entire collection of claims is really unbelievable (if not, impossible).

Keep using your brain! You’ll figure it out…!

whatever. I mistyped. im saying I dont get it. life is based on that same book we call the bible. if you do not fully understand it then how are you suppose to live according to it? history books are concrete they explain everything. why cant the bible be that way? God laid down concrete laws why cant he get his story straight?

Answer #5

FYI sammysam…duh. The point I was making was that the bible has gaps and falsehoods and has been translated many times…it is a story book…not a history book and should not be taken as such. Why ask or wonder about what the bible says regarding the flood, the ark, the animals, the people… it is a story book… why in the world are you trying to figure out the ancestry of humankind based on a story book?

“christopher columbus, sailed the ocean blue in 1842 according to history. “ FYI…according to history it was 1492. geez…

Answer #6

I was raised as if this is the way. but I find so many faults in it I don’t know what to believe. I need answers or I cant believe. I dont see how this works with other christians. if it lies in the bible then how do you believe it? how do you intrust you whole life and afterlife into something that may not even be real?

Answer #7

Life is not based on the bible. Believers lives are based on the bible. That is what it is…belief. I am a scientist and tend to want proof. If you want to believe and base your life on the bible, then you should just believe. Do not bring reason into it.

Answer #8

noah or whatever. but no a history book can be proven. the bible is a question of yourself. and there is no gaps or unanswered questions in a history book. its all truth and print. the bible is questionable. FYI utopia.

Answer #9

I’m more concerned about the thought of there only being two of each animal… That would mean every animal around us is incest, lol. Maybe my interpretation is off :S.

Answer #10

Kangaroos can’t swim. Science wins.

Answer #11

It was Noah, not Moses. And the bible is NOT a history book, do not consider it as such.

Answer #12

There’s just too much theory in my opinion.
