How can I stop if I'm gaining the Freshman 500?

I’m a freshman in college, and i’m about a month in now. I am definitely freaking out because i feel like i’m getting huge. I think i gained a few pounds since being here. I feel like going to the dinning hall is a social event, and i really do not want to miss out and while i’m there i eat! plus i love chocolate and my roommate has no care to whether or not she gains weight so she bought 5 bags of random types of chocolate. anddd she’s so nice and lets me eat whatever i want. How can i escape temptation if its staring me in the face? school is so stressful, i just can’t help but indulge myself in food! any suggestions on how to control this?

Dear broken1234, The freshman 15 is very difficult and you are right is directly related to stress. When I was in college I took up walking but now with “predators” it is not recommended to walk alone. So if you have someone who is interested walking a few miles daily is great. If you have to be there where there is such temptations then keep a bag of baby carrots handy and choose them instead of chocolate or those fattening drinks you can get on campus. You are in good company, most say they loose the 15 when they begin a job shortly after leaving college. Sue…good luck

You need to actually make some effort. Control your appetite and just say no.

Funnily enough, I lost 10 lbs when I was a freshman in college. Must be why I’m not getting the whole Freshman 15 thing.
