When a female is described as a "hamster", what is meant?

I know that is was meant as a derogatory term, and have seen it is many books, the latest being an old school novel “Ordinary People”. It was used to describe a small, in no way fat, talkative and fast moving individual. Has anyone out there heard this slang and know what exactly it means? Thanks.

Usually they’ll have chubby cheeks and big teethe with a huge over bite. Sometimes it makes them looks adorable and other times it can be an insult.

Answer #7

Well, if I were to refer to a girl as a “Hamster” I would most likely be making fun of her, because her face reminds me of a hamsters (chubby cheeks, large front teeth, over bite, beady eyes, fluffy/poofy hair)

Answer #8

But it could be a compliment, maybe they are just a really hyper and outgoing person?

Answer #9

lol never heard that… umm depends on what a person thinks of a hamster… could be stupid? innocent? creepy? furry? fluffy? CUTE? little? chubby? doesn’t talk much? too active? too lazy? sleeps a lot? moves around a lot?
i can go on for days just describing how a cute little hamster can be

So none of you guys have actually heard this word used? lol, no one I knows has heard it either. The novel I was reading was told from the perspective of a depressed father/lawyer, and he was comparing this other woman at a neighbour’s father to his calm and centered wife, saying he’d rather her than a hamster, so I’m guessing that it refered to her busy and animated mannerisms. It had nothing to do wth her physical appearance, besides maybe that she was tiny.
