Should you still expect presents without having an party?

If you don’t have an engagement party should friends and relative still give you gifts? We have received some gifts by some and not by most. Our grandparents think they don’t have to give a gift to us since we did not have a party. Any suggestions on this subject . thanks, Donna

Usually people give gifts at engagement parties so I think if you want them you better throw one. Why wouldn’t you have one anyways? They’re fun.

Answer #2

Where im from, we DONT have engagement parties. We have a wedding shower about 2 or 3 months before they actually get married. Some engagements can be long ones, and the couple might split during that time. So why would you invest time and money on something that might not even happen? Thats why its better to have a shower just prior to the wedding. All the plans have been made so everyone knows they are for sure getting married!

Don’t be greedy. Are you getting engaged just to get a gift? I sure hope not. Most people will bring a gift to a party, but won’t just walk up to you and give you a gift. If that is what you are after, get someone to throw you a small come and go party.

By the way, most people don’t get gifts for getting engaged, they get gifts for their wedding shower.
