Emancipation In Ohio

I’m a 16 year old girl. I am pregnant and have to go in to be induced tomorrow. I live with my mother and her new husband. This isn’t a horrible place to live, but it’s a very stressful place to raise a child. Due to the fact that my son is going to be a newborn I don’t want to live here anymore. I’m afraid that this is not a suitable home to raise a newborn baby boy in. The fridge is always full of beer, whether or not there is money for groceries. Due to the fact that I’m a 16 year old mother I was wondering if it is legal in Ohio to be emancipated. My boyfriend, (my baby’s father), and his grandmother have asked me numerous times to move in with them, but I will not be able to unless I am emancipated. They have a suitable home to raise a newborn in with no drugs, or alcohol. Please let me know where to go, and how to go about getting emancipated as a 16 year old mother in Ohio. Thanks.

Call the clerk of court’s office in your city/county. Every state has different laws. Did you look into checking into Section 8 or subsidized housing? This will allow you to get an apartment for you and the baby. Are you going to get Welfare, food stamp cards, medical cards and WIC? You will need a babysitting voucher or 4c’s daycare assistance while you’re in school.

These are a few things that come to mind from what I know. Best wishes, pray and I know you’re going to be a good mother. Peace and blessings.

Well, what I found out by google emacipation laws in Ohio is :

you need to prove that you can support yourself you need to prove that you can handle your finances you need to prove that your parents are unfit to live with

or:

you can get married (you need parental approval for this in Ohio)

if you choose to do this you go to your local juvenile court (most likely domestic relations) and they will evaluate the situation to see if you can apply.

good luck
