How are the elements ordered in the modern periodic table?
2.Name as many of the alkali metals, halgoensand noble gasses as you can and list them with theirsymbols 3.How many protons are there in an atom of chlorinen gold and mercury
It is stilled ordered by protons on the top of the square and mass number on the bottom. That is how I am learning it now in chemistry and I have seen around 50 periodic tables this year
Element are arranged in order of increasing atomic number & the properties of each element are studied in turn, similarities recur periodically.
The periodic table of the chemical elements (also known as the periodic table or periodic table of the elements) is a tabular display of the 118 known chemical elements organized by selected properties of their atomic structures. Elements are presented by increasing atomic number, the number of protons in an atom’s atomic nucleus. While rectangular in general outline, gaps are included in the horizontal rows (known as periods) as needed to keep elements with similar properties together in vertical columns (known as groups), e.g. alkali metals, alkali earths, halogens, noble gases.[1]
The following is the periodic table as defined by the IUPAC:

This common arrangement of the periodic table separates the lanthanides (lanthanoids) and actinides (actinoids) (the f-block) from other elements. The wide periodic table incorporates the f-block. The extended periodic table adds the 8th and 9th periods, incorporating the f-block and adding the theoretical g-block. Element categories in the periodic table Metals Metalloids Nonmetals Unknown chemical properties Alkali metals Alkaline earth metals Inner transition metals Transition metals Post-transition metals Other nonmetals Halogens Noble gases Lanthanides Actinides Atomic number colors show state of matter at standard conditions (0 °C and 1 atm): Solids Liquids Gases Unknown Borders show natural occurrence: Primordial From decay Synthetic Although there were precursors, the current presentation’s invention is generally credited to Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, who developed a version of the now-familiar tabular presentation in 1869 to illustrate recurring (“periodic”) trends in the properties of the then-known elements.[2] The layout of the table has been refined and extended over time, as new elements have been discovered, and new theoretical models have been developed to explain chemical behavior.
