Why do I still feel bad even though I'm eating healthy?

I follow a pretty healthy daily food plan from a nutritionist. I don’t eat refined sugar, white flour or any meat except for fish. Despite all this, I still feel bad most of the time. I have very low energy, headaches, trouble concentrating and staying focused sometimes, and constant daily digestive problems like flatulence. Although I take antidepressants, I am also still prone to depression and anxiety. I don’t know what to do. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

If you haven’t already you should have a thourough physical with blood work. You could be suffering from anemia or deficiency. You could also be suffering from food allergies even from healthy foods.

Are you getting exercise? Eating right is just one part of the equation. If you aren’t exercising don’t try to throw yourself into a gruling routine, just start with a little exercise like 10 minutes of walking and work yourself up from there.

Are you sleeping well? Antidepressents can cause insomnia and if you aren’t getting good sleep because of them this could contribute to your poor energy level. Antidepressents can also cause gastrointestinal problems so this could be one of your problems. Ask your doctor if your issues are caused by side effects of your medication. Your doctor may want to try changing medications or your dossage.

Healthy diets tend to cause a little more flatulence than unhealthy ones since good food includes fiber which feeds the anaerobic bacteria in your gut that produce gas. There are certain healthy foods that cause gas that you may have to eat only in moderation like broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, and beans. A product called Beano can help when you eat foods prone to cause gas. Charcoal tablets also reduce gas and make what gas you do have less smelly.
