Dogs peeing everywhere

I have two dogs, a miniature pincher, and a chiuaua. They are not new or anything, but not waaay old. They pee/poop everywhere!

People think training won’t help because they are too old to get trained since they have lived with just using the bathroom anywhere..

What should we do?

since they’re little dogs they have to be let out just about every hour. if you cant do that then you might want to hire somebody to help you with it..I would know I’ve got 5 dogs!

emorockstarchick is right…any aged dog can learn “new tricks’, and that includes housetraining…as she says…you’ve got the get the “smell” out of the carpets and the lino…and if they’ve been doing this a long time, it WILL take a cleaning company to do it.

As for that actual training, you treat them just like you would a pup…VIGILANCE is the key…watch them constantly, or crate when you cannot. Let them out when they wake up, after they eat, after they play, and every 30 to 45 minutes in between…What you’re aiming for is to “beat them to it”…get them out before they have an accident.

Any age dog can be trained. 1st start by tying a small cow bell to the door you use most offen to let them out to go potty. ring the bell and tell them its time to go potty then after a few days take there paw and swat the bell with there paw and then take them out to go potty. this will help everyone in the home to know when they need to go. also you need too call Envirodecon services (269-998-2792) and they can help you with cleaning your home of pee/poop smells. if your not in MI then they may be able to give you a name of someone closer to you. hope this helps (bell works with my 8 dogs)!!

Keep them on a leash with you in whatever room you are in and take them out every two hours or sooner if they act restless. If you are not home you need to crate them. But when you crate it must be a crate only large enough for your dog to stand, turn around and lay back down. If your crate is any larger they will poop in it and move to the back to lay down.

All dogs can be trained. I have dogs that came from a dog kennel that had never been out of a cage and I have trained them to be house broke and not to potty in their crates. I am talking about one was 1 1/2 years and 2 six months and a female poodle that was so afriad of everyone that was two years old, to live in a house be loved and not potty in the house.

So you can always teach your dog, you just have to invest the time. You must also stay consistent.

There are products on the market, in pet stores that are suppose to help stop your pet from pooping in certain area’s, you might try that. But I am cheap and would rather teach them not to do poop in the house than buy this stuff.

I HAVE 3 DOGS ONE WAS A 6YS OLD RESCUE WHO HAD NEVER BEEN TRAINED AND TWO PUPPIES WHAT YOU NEED TO DO IS TAKE THEM OUT QUITE OFTEN MAYBE EVERY HOUR OR SO AFTER EATING ON A LEASH AND TAKE THEM TO A CERTAIN SPOT OF YOUR YARD TO POTTY RELAX AND WAIT UNTIL THEY GO POTTY AFTER THEY DO SAY “GOOD POTTY” TAKE THEM ONE BY ONE AT A TIME BEFORE LETTING THEM GO OUT ASSOCIATE “GO POTTY” DO IT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AFTER A WHILE THEY WILL LEARN TO GO POTTY AND SOON YOU WILL BE ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR AND SAY GO POTTY THEY WILL KNOW WHAT TO DO! AND WHERE TO GO IT IS SAFE THAT AFTER THE GOT THE IDEA TO GO POTTY TO LEAVE THEM OUT FOR A LITTLE WHILE TO INSURE YOUR SELF THAT POTTY IS WHAT THEY DID AND RELAX YOUR SELF I KNOW IT CAN BE STRESSFUL AND REMEMBER THAT EVENTUALLY THEY WILL LEARN TO HOLD IT AND THEN YOU CAN EXTEND THE POTTY TIME AND REMEMBER THERE WILL BE ACCIDENTS! :)

Good advice above. Using the crate is the first step to teaching your dog appropriate behavior and what’s expected of him. Keep the crate just big enough for the dog to lie down in so he doesn’t pee in the crate. Take him out frequently and reward him through treats and/or praise when he pees outside. Do not fuss at him when he pees in the house (which he shouldn’t if you do the above) because it’s not his fault - it’s yours. Your dogs expect you to be their pack leader and the pack leader tells them when and where to pee. I recommend the articles on Leerburg.com to help.
