does liftin weights stunt your growth?

does liftin weights stunt your growth? 15 year old male

Answer #1

My understanding, it definately benefits ‘growth’/developement:

Weight training is a form of exercise for developing the strength and size of skeletal muscles. It is a common type of strength training which uses the force of gravity (in the form of weighted bars, dumbells or weight stacks) to oppose the force generated by muscle through concentric or eccenntric contraction.

well certain exercises do……..and no not all weight lifting encourages growth, only strength and coordination(free weights)………something to avoid doing toooooo much, Squat, and heavy shoulder shrugs, any type of squat will slow your growth down, deadlift is fine but once you get stronger and do more weight you are bound to slow your growth down, one thing that I found really helpful in growing taller was my increased intake of Milk and training with monkey bars, hanging promotes lengthening of the spine and thus helping you add growth plates to your bones……. : )

i dunno how far this is true, but I tried it and I dunno if it ever worked…..I slept in a completely dark room(no light what so ever) not even a dot of light in the room about 6 months and increased my intake of milk to almost 3 big glasses a day, and lets just say in about a 6 month period I grew from 5’2 to 5’8(1/4)……..i dunno how much part did the pitch dark room play, but that combination worked wonders for me, now i’m about 6’ so i’m content with my height……….

hope this helps
