Does weight lifting affect height growth?

I’m a 14 year old high school freshman. In my P.E. class we do different weight exercises. My question now is that will my weight lifting affect my height growth? in other words, is my growth going to slow down?

Wow…im surprised they are letting you do weights at such a young age ..

Depending on how heavy of the form of weights you do…yes it can do a lot to stunting your growth which can definitely effect your growth rate and height just depending on the consistency of these weight sessions and the severity in the heaviness of weight

I personally think that you should lay off the weights, doing heavy or even mild weights can definitely stunt your growth

If you are going to attend to weights, go for the light weight ones that just usually involve you standing up and flexing your biceps, but yeah try to avoid any weights involved in squatting or lying down.

The places where bones grow are called growth plates. When you reach your full height (generally at 18 for women and 20 for men) your growth plates have fused and stopped growing. Heavy weight lifting can damage growth plates causing them to fuse prematurely.

Assuming your PE teacher has you do age appropriate weights you should have no problem.

yep fuillet of spam is right, I would stay away from heavy deadlifts and shrugs and squats, that doesnt mean dont do them, just dont go extremely heavy

no it will not stunt your growth but you do need to make sure you are doing the correct form.

bad form in workout such as bench press and squats can cause back and shoulder injuries.
