do you think the shock collar is good or bad?

my boyfriend wants to buy a shock a shock collar 4 our 5 mnth old german sheperd because the dog always chews and bites on our feet does anyone have any suggestions of how to deal with this problem besides the collar? please help before its too late

Answer #1

A remote training collar can work to solve the problem. However, you should purchase a reliable collar that has a lot of variability in level selection (not all collars are the same and some are quite poor pieces of equipment)

It is also VERY important that you learn how to use the tool correctly and in a fair fashion. Your goal is to create a nice, happy and well behaved pet.

I have specialized in training with remote collars for many years. If you would like help, you can contact me at http://www.ThatsMyDog.com

How would you like if someone put a collor on you n you couldnt get it off and then the zapped you will a shock everytime you do something you dont even no is bad.

Nofar to the poor doggy.

Please train your dog and not use the shock collor

Shock collars work but only use them after you have tried all other alternatives. They only need the shock collar for a day or so, they will learn pretty quick.

I think it’s a puppy thing. Your dog will prly grow out of it. Put him in time out when he does if you have a kennel. Give him chew toys replacing your feet and toes. Noo shock collars.

Answer #5

they cause the neck to have damage and if this occurs tgebanimal will die

Answer #6

When he bites/chews your feet, kind of push him away and say “NO!” Get him chew toys and bones he’s probably teething…I wouldn’t get a shock collar though. =D

A shock collar is LAST resort…on a German Shepherd you may end up causing more behavioral problems than you cure…A 4 or 5 month old puppy is FAR TOO YOUNG to use shock on, anyway…and it’s not the cure for biting on your feet…shock collars are used for out of range problems, like chasing livestock or deer…

Because a GSD is a herding dog, you have to expect it comes with herding instincts…that means it will go after your feet, hands…whatever is “moving”…to teach it to not do that, say NO BITE!!…open it’s mouth and release yourself…if it comes right back at you, say NO BITE!!, and remove yourself from the game…go to another room. Patience and TIME will correct this problem…Your German Shepherd is totally normal in this behavior.

This is a puppy…it will not be an adult for another 18 months…at this time it is completely trainable. Use the basic obedience I’m hoping you have already started on this dog.

German Shepherds are smart in the extreme…playful in the extreme…and once adults they are obedient in the extreme. You will wreck your dog by using a shock collar for something that EVERY pet owner goes thru with EVERY puppy of EVERY breed…time to work with the dog, on a daily basis (obedience and exercise)…they need plenty of mental and physical stimulation. Given daily lessons, you will end up with the best dog you could possibly dream to have…Remember “a good dog is a tried dog”…

…pick up a book on training at the library…and tell boyfriend that there aren’t ANY shortcuts to training…A shock collar has it’s place, that’s a fact…but this isn’t one of those places.

I’ve had German Shepherds for 40 years…of many different types and lines…from aggressive to fearful to social butterflies…If you want help with this pup, just ask me…I can help, or hook you up with a whole group of people who own German Shepherds…just ask.

My brother had one for his dog and the dog learned absolutely nothing. Eventually he gave the dog to my other brother and now the dog is better behaved. They taught the dog the old fashioned way…they just showed him lots of love and patience and eventually he learned what he was supposed to do.

My 8 week old rot husky mix does the same thing. I talked to the guy at petsmart and they said the puppy or beginners training classes will help.
