Is a barking shock collar cruel?

Are barking collars on dogs cruel?

Answer #1

yes! haha I put one on and OMG it freakin KILLS. I dunno why I did it though.

Answer #2

nope they now have ones that spray citronella when the dog barks and I use a vibrating collar on my deaf dog, I use to use a shock collar on the lost setting but I made sure I used it on myself first, they are only abuse if they fall into the wrong person’s hands and they don’t know how to use them.

Answer #3

Shock collars are ALWAYS the “last resort”…A tin can with bolts and nuts…a pop can with pennies in it…are great for stopping barking…and doesn’t take much longer to instill respect than a collar.

As harley said, the citronella collar would be my first choice before I stepped up the discipline to using a shock collar. The ones designed for curbing barking are a “static charge”, and not as potent of a shock as say…for a livestock or car chaser…still, always start at the most passive disciple and work your way up till you get a “result”.

Answer #4

I think it is! its really mean!

Answer #5

No, but I don’t think that it solves the problem fully, I think it is better for a dog to be well behaved withou the colar seeing as though there are other, easier alternatives.

But it doesn’t harm dogs, vets, behaviourist and trainers often reccommend them, so I see no harm in them, they are just not the only alternative.
