Are depressed people smarter?

For some reason I think depressed people are smarter than happy people, I have more insights into the world, I mean it comes at a price, but it can be cool to get issues other kids my age dont. Thoughts, comments?

Answer #1

Actually depression does not measure your intelligance. . . Some people inherit it like me and some people get it from drug abuse and still others get it from Stress and other places and problems. . . . Some deal with it better than others. I can control mine without medication but it can still be triggered to the point I have to leave work or what ever I’m doing and go home for the day where I will usually Cry till I fall asleep. . . Some people confuse depression with boredom and being sad or just having a poor outlook on things. No I’m not your age But I have learned it can be controled if you start thinking positive thoughts instead of negitive one and listening to positive music and people. . . #1 thing to do is to remember your not #1 everyone else is. #2 Make someone smile who needs it every day. . . Do those 2 things and you can control the depression instead of it controling you. Oh. . . . Make everyone wonder what your smiling about.

jaes, your profile says New York, NY. To what part of Alaska have you migrated.

Maybe that’s part of your depression. Not as much to do in Alaska as in and around New York.

You definitely need to find things to occupy your time and mind so that you don’t spend so much time dwelling on your self and “supposed” problems. Look at life positively, through rose colored glasses and you will find life a lot more rewarding.

Answer #9

It takes time. . . for the time being you should probably see a Doctor for Advice of this Nature. . . I learned over time that simple Humor is easy to fine once you figure out where to find it. . . . Try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep at night or more if you can. . Sleeping helps your brain reset and correct it’s self. . . One other thing that helps is learning not to think why me but why not me. . .
Get control of it before it gets control of you.

Answer #10

Depression does not make people smarter. More free time to think of stuff because you’re less likely to be out and stuff maybe, but not smarter. Although depressed people tend to be more realistic about themselves. Studies have shown most people walk around with rose colored glasses all the time, the overestimate their qualities and good points. Although that can just be seen as a healthy coping mechanism…
