Daughter cant stop caughing

Okay so there whole story is. Weekend of easter (april 11) daughter (who is 3) wroke up that saturday and couldnt walk for some reason. Her knee was red swollen and warm to the touch at certion spot. Monday called the doctor bc it didnt get any better. They sent her for an exray and then that week sent her to Hershey childrens hospital. They siad it was an infection in her knee from her being sick four days before that.

Now it went away for about four days and then came back on say April 25th but this time she woke up with a cough, runny nose says her eyes hurt and her ears hurt. Let it go for the day and it went away and and knee hasnt hurt since. But now she has this cough so bad she cant breath right. no fever, runny nose or anyhting but just htis cough now for going on like two or three weeks. I took her to the doctor almost two weeks ago now and they said it was a cold just a cold. She had bad ear infection with a cold.

Why is her cough getting worse now two weeks later? Im very worried and dont know what else to do. I mean she got no fever but just htis BAD cough that gives her hard time to breath! PLEASE HELP

Possibility: During a coughing spell, which can last for more than a minute, the child may turn red or purple. At the end of a spell, the child may make a characteristic whooping sound when breathing in or may vomit. Between spells, the child usually feels well. Although it’s likely that infants and younger children who become infected with B. pertussis will develop the characteristic coughing episodes with their accompanying whoop, not everyone will. However, sometimes infants don’t cough or whoop as older kids do. They may look as if they’re gasping for air with a reddened face and may actually stop breathing for a few seconds during particularly bad spells. Adults and adolescents with whooping cough may have milder or atypical symptoms, such as a prolonged cough without the coughing spells or the whoop: http://kidshealth.org/parent/infections/lung/whooping_cough.html

Take care !!

did the doctor give her antibiotics?

Answer #3

Try a kids cough serup, and try a heating pad near her chest. Make sure she is drinking lots of water, and juices. NO MILK. Milk will make the cough worse and thicken her mucus, blocking her lungs, and making it harder to breathe. As far as food goes, soup,or applesauce,no solids,or any thick foods like breads or pasta.

Answer #5

I had that same problem. I started getting that when I was 12 years old. I still get it every time I get sick and I am now 14, afterwards. I hate it. My parents always: soothe me, give me cough syrup, and my doctor just tries diff. pills for it until one works, I guess.
