How to deal with my criminal background past hauting me?
I just got downsized after over ten years on a job and perhaps I have been living in a “silo” …background checks were not an issue when I applied for my last job. Now after 30 years of work, no gaps etc. I get turned down for old misdemeanors which I had totally forgot about and put them in the past. Now I have to drudge up a tramatic time of my life and explain behaviors that I am ashamed of regardless of how I have lived my life. Does not seem fair, anybody else been through this and have advice for me.
Usually when companies do background checks they go through agencies which are by law not allowed to report anything that is 7 years or older and 10 years for bankruptcy. You should get a copy of any background check that is done on you and I would see where they got the info from and contact them to see why it is still being reported.
sigh My Uncle has the same problem. he dropped out of High School,he didnt go to College,He got jailed for Stealing,and Possession. By Law,If asked for a backup,It is legal for any hiring job to turn you down based on your background check. im sorry =/
